Project: Periodic Table of Pests
This project was to showcase a "periodic table" of my own creation using self-designed icons in a thoughtfully designed trifold brochure and to include introductory text and a fun editorial story inside as well to describe why this periodic table would be useful. I chose to create a child-like brochure that showcased some cute, creepy, and interesting pests that are all around us. To do so, I used funky typefaces and earthy, yet calming colors, along with the icons to embellish and display the creatures.

For the spreads in the trifold, I wanted to showcase the most easily recognizable pests that draw your attention to the text and give you a hint of the nature that I created. The entire trifold is made to appeal to the younger generation, so with the text and colors, other than being inspired by nature, I was especially inspired by the kids that would be looking at it.

Process:

First installment of the icons

Second installment of the icons: less black, too much detail.

Final installment of the icons: less natural, less detail, thicker strokes, only defining parts shown to identify the pest shown.
